Recently, Humidur is used as anti-corrosion coating on the flare stack structural steel wok of Shell's Shearwater Platform. This job was successfully executed and resulted in cost savings.
Normally, this type of work would have been grit blasted to Sa 2.5 and a 3-coat system would have been applied. If this option would have been chosen, the costs would increase due to the HSE exposure limits, encapsulation and clean-up operation, as well as the increased labour costs.
But thanks to Humidur, the flare stack just needed St2 and St3 as surface preparation and one single layer of the protective coating.
